Should a Woman Pay for Her Own Engagement Ring

Is there a change happening in today’s society where it’s now acceptable for a woman to pay for some or all of her engagement ring? Well that seems to be the question that was raised recently by one of the New York Post’s senior reporters. According to the Knots social media page, it seems that couples have taken the notion that splitting the bill on the engagement ring is perfectly acceptable. The Knots reported that more than 50% of the women surveyed either paid the initial deposit for their own engagement ring or they paid for a total of 50% of the entire cost of the ring.

The Today Show also chimed in on the topic by surveying online viewers with over 60% of them saying that they would have classified themselves as traditionalist and stated that struggling financially is never a good reason to let a woman pay for her own engagement ring. What about women who are the breadwinners for their families? Should there be an exception where women who earn more money than their future husbands to be allowed to help out when buying the engagement ring. Probably the best answer to that question would be left up to one’s own conscious about the topic. Whether or not it would bother either the man or the woman in the relationship should be taken into account. What do you think? Is it ever OK for a woman to help pay for her own engagement ring?
